A Super Bowl Is It Pyrex

With the holidays fast approaching, a concerned host might worry about topics of conversation for guests who gather around the dining room table. Chances are members of every generation represented at the gathering know what Pyrex is and own at least a dish or two. With 40 million pieces sold each year, Pyrex likely was involved in the preparing, cooking or serving of the holiday meal and might just be called upon later to store leftovers.

When it comes to Pyrex, who doesn’t have a good word to say about it? The timing seems appropriate, too, since this venerable glass workhorse is celebrating its th birthday.

Pyrex fans love the brand so much they’re getting TATTOOS Online

Many people are very sentimental about old kitchen wares — well-used utilitarian objects rich in memories of mothers and grandmothers, family chores and gatherings. Canning tools and jars are among these fondly remembered things, essentials in seasonal rituals of preserving food and making jams and jellies. The Kerr Glass Factory, built in , was one of the locations where Kerr produced jars.

The black Pyrex mug was one of about eight in the store- I only bought one, just to have (again) one in every color, but now I am wishing I had bought them all. They look amazing with my cinnamon colored ones and would be great for Halloween displays.

So, I found my first one at an antique store in Comfort, TX near where I lived … a 4 oz Evenflo glass bottle with the black ring and disc- perfect! It was the black ring and disc that were the hardest to find, as well as the vertical Evenflo name on one of the sides of the bottle. The local Salvation Army Thrift Store manager would see things come in and hold them for me I was in there many times a week- big entertainment in the small Texas town I was living in.

That grew into wanting to get a bigger representation of how babies were fed over the many, many decades of bottle-feeding. Evenflo bottles- from the early Pyrex Evenflo bottles to the vintage translucent pastel plastic bottles. Nipples are always the biggest issue in getting a complete bottle, as latex deteriorates over time. Once I discovered eBay in , it was game on! I also got some really old hospital nursery bottles from Similac, Enfamil, SMA, Wyeth, and some others I have no clue about, other than some vague assumptions about the general time period they likely came from.

Well, eBay to the rescue again! Note the aqua box in the second photo- more on that in a minute! Before nipples, pieces of wool, leather, or even wood would be stuffed in the hole at the feeding end, so the flow rate adjustment would be even more critical. Latex was a huge deal in improving feeding safety.

Set off the fireworks and call your friends! My husband has a customer who cleans out homes of, well, the dead and owns an antique shop. He knows that we collect Pyrex and Moxie things so is always keeping an eye out for something we might like. Ladies and gentlemen, just in time for our tax return, he delivers.

This is a large mixing bowl by JAJ Pyrex dating from the ‘s. It has a red scroll design on one side of it. It shows some sign of wear to the inside and the red scroll has a nick out of (both pictured), otherwise it’s perfectly usable, very sturdy and has lots of life in it yet.

The name was sold off to a company that went bankrupt. Fern One more reason I will prize the old Pyrex baking dishes handed down from my grandmother. Brian Too This seems like a very plausible failure mode for a dish. Just imagine accidentally burning a casserole. Lots of people would take the dish out of the oven and put it in the sink, either with or without water in the basin.

Now factor in the consumer education angle. There are decades of experience with cooks around the world, using Pyrex. They build up expectations of what such cookware can and cannot take. This change in product composition tends to violate those consumer expectations.

Vintage Tupperware Dating Pieces in demand include a complete set of nesting bowls from the s to the s as well as s sculptural salt and pepper shakers.. I have come across nice pieces of what is affectionately labeled vintage at thrift shops and yard sales and always pick up a few pieces. By the late s, Tupperwares soft and hard plastic products replaced glass, pottery, and wooden receptacles. Thanks so much for the walk back in kitchen history..

As decorating color palettes changed, so did Tupperware.

Discontinued & Current Corelle Patterns. Accidents happen and when a piece of your favorite Corelle dinnerware breaks, it can be frustrating trying to find a replacement when you discover that your pattern has been discontinued.

If the item you are listing is something you have owned for over 20 years, then it is easy…. The company Arabia Finland is great at this, and it was easy to learn when this vintage casserole baker was made, based on the factory back stamp it was made between to But what about an item that has no date, like this Babar the Elephant King cup? My initial search led me to this page from the Worthpoint website indicating one like it sold in … And while it is nice to know that the cup is rare, I still did not know when it was made.

It turns out there was a dispute over product licensing, so perhaps the products did not go out in mass quantity, resulting in making these cups rare. So, the answer is YES, this item is vintage, and I listed it on the my Etsy vintage shop where it sold very quickly. The first Babar book was by Jean de Brunhoff and was an immediate success after its release in After the death of Jean de Brunhoff in , his son, Laurent de Brunhoff who was also an illustrator and writer continued on with the character and the series of Babar books.

With thanks to everyone from GlassMessages. About Chance glass briefly The history of the domestic glassware produced by Chance Bros. But here are a few highlights. Some ovenware is identifiable as being octagonal-shaped with recessed handles on the lid. The orange enamel decoration on the example shown right is not generally known. Production started from to before Chance sold the rights to Jobling, who were at this stage manufacturing Pyrex and probably purchased Orlak purely to stifle the competition — whatever the circumstances, Orlak never reappeared.

Chances’ first foray into tableware. Seven designs were created from and these continued until in a variety of shapes and styles, when the manufacturing process proved uneconomical and was ceased. The predominant feature of Chance pressed glass from this era is it’s all created from clear glass. Examples shown in colour are actually enamel sprayed onto clear glass. What a long, strange trip it’s been! Hello Friends, it’s good to have you here! Well, summer is flying by and I realize I haven’t been around here a whole lot, so we have some catching up to do! I spent the last week thrifting some spots I don’t normally get to, so I have a lot to share. My kids were at a day camp down in the area I grew up in, so after dropping them off at 9 am I got to check out all my old favorite shops. So I got myself a plan and made sure to hit the biggest stores first and then the smaller stores later on.

Camp pickup was 3 pm Most of my good finds at the larger stores were Monday and Tuesday morning. Or perhaps that is just the age we are living in and the good stuff is getting harder to find I know it!
